Air-Pollution and Smoking

The air-pollution in Beijing is not a "big health risk" for the athletes, so a government speaker told us. Not a big one? So there is one, at least I understand this statement that way.

Like smoking and non-smoking? Or maybe passive smoking in a pub or bar? Who knows or will tell us the truth. At least one journalist from N24(non-smoker) said it's hard outside the buildings, he feels it even after a short walk on his lungs and heart.

The poor athletes, visitors and journalists there. Nobody was nannying enough to stop them, preserved them from going there, no one protected them and their health. Like the government would do it here.

Here some people think, that non-smokers have to be protected from going into pubs where smoking is allowed. That they don't have their own mind where to go to. Most of the restaurants and pubs are non-smoking places, only in about 30% smoking is allowed.

You think that I can't compare the air-pollution at the Olympics with the smoke in smokers pubs? Maybe you're right. But you better think twice.

                            

Beijing Olympics- No Censorship???

Excellent working conditions without any problems were promised to the journalists by IOC President Jacques Rogge. No problems with censorship or unfettered Internet access. The Olympics 2008 in Beijing will be a wonderful place of freedom and harmony. How Lovely.
But what is the truth? Well, let's take a closer look. Foreign newspapers- two days old. No censorship? Can you access tibet-forum.com , gfbv.de , rsf.org and many others? Try it if you are planing to visit the Olympics! Or search for Falun Gong. Nothing!!!

Also some people from the invitation list have been withdrawn. Why that? Are they maybe not "comfortable" enough? Oh, by the way, even if you are writing about the Darfur crisis you are not "comfortable".
Excellent working conditions are looking different, at least in my eyes.

Monsieur Rogge, you deserve a kick in your ass from every journalist who has to work in China during the Olympics 2008!

Sometimes things happen, where it's better to wait a few days until you write about them. Even if your mind seems to explode. You need to cool down, especially if you see how this man got received in the Lebanon. This man is not only a terrorist; his most „heroic“ gesture was to kill a 4 year old child after he killed her father in front of her eyes; he is a piece of scum. This man has no right to life.

Maybe you know now why I'm pro death sentence.

Arrest warrent against Al-Bashir

Luis Moreno-Ocampo, the chief prosecutor of the International Crime Court at the Hague, has finally filed charges of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes against Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and applied for an arrest-warrant at the ICC. He presented his evidence against al-Bashir to the judges today, and now it's up to them to decide, whether they issue it or not, but it's expected that they'll do so, cause they already have approved all of his previous submissions.

But, if they will issue it, al-Bashir would be the first active president who would face charges from the court which was set up to pursue the world's most grave cases of human rights abuse(I think Mugabe should face it too, but fast, before he dies).

Without any surprise I read, that already Sudan's ambassador to the UN has condemned the charges. Well, if he wouldn't do so, he and his family probably would get killed by al-Bashirs military.

So, the only question than will be, how to get him out alive and to the court. He will not come, and the UN-Security Council will not send fighting troops to get him. Do they want to kidnap him?

Or hire a good sniper to kill him? Well, if that only would stop the rapes of woman and kids, I would totally agree with it.

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

45 years ago

On June, 26th 1963, President John F. Kennedy visited Berlin, but he didn't come alone, he brought General Lucius D.Clay with him, the hero of the Berlin airlift.

After there tour throughout the city, seeing also the Berlin Wall, JFK finally arrived at the`Rathaus Schöneberg´ were he held his famous speech(full length). I was a young boy, but my Dad took me there with him. And I still remember Kennedys words when he said: "Ich bin ein Berliner".

60 YEARS AGO- The Berlin Blockade

60 years ago, in the night from the 23rd to the 24th of June, the lights went of in West Berlin. All traffic from and to the city was blocked by the Soviets. They wanted to hold the whole city in their communist fist, under their power.

General Lucius D. Clay called in Ernst Reuter, the Mayor-elect of Berlin, who was accompanied by his aide, Willy Brandt. Clay told Reuter, "Look, I am ready to try an airlift. I can't guarantee it will work. I am sure that even at its best, people are going to be cold and people are going to be hungry. And if the people of Berlin won't stand that, it will fail. And I don't want to go into this unless I have your assurance that the people will be heavily in approval." Reuter, although skeptical, assured Clay that Berlin would make all the necessary sacrifices and that the Berliners would support his actions.

June 25th, General Clay gave the order to launch the Berlin Airlift, also called Operation Vittles, and on the next day the first C-47 cargo planes landed at Tempelhof Airport. The isolated Berlin- a city under siege- with every product necessary to keep the city and its more than two million inhabitants alive. Coal, heating oil, medicines, food and necessary supplies were airlifted into Berlin in an endless stream of transport aircraft operation at 2 minutes intervals, and at its highest even 30 seconds intervals, day and night in all kind of weather. And one of its most famous pilots, especially for the kids, was Gail Halvorsen, the chocolate uncle.

On September 6, 1948, East German Communists occupied the city council building, to block new elections. Three days later the RIAS Radio, urged West Berliners to protest the East German actions. A crowd of 500,000 people gathered at the Brandenburg Gate, next to the Reichstag (the war-ruined German Parliament house). The Airlift was working so far, but many West Berliners feared that the Allies would eventually abandon them to the Soviets. They needed reassurance that their sacrifices would not be for nothing. Ernst Reuter took to the microphone and plead for his city, "You peoples of the world. You people of America, of England, of France, look on this city, and recognize that this city, this people must not be abandoned -- cannot be abandoned!" The crowd surged towards the east and someone ripped down the Red Flag from the Gate. Soviet military police responded, killing one 15 year old boy.

The elections went ahead for December 5, and again the Communists attempt to disrupt them. When it came clear that their affords where failing again, they withdraw from the process and elected a Communist government for East Berlin.

The blockade lasted nearly one year and was lifted at midnight May 12th 1949. The attempted strangulation of Berlin by the Soviet Union to force the Western Allies out of the city and put the citizens under Communist force failed. 31 Americans and 39 British soldiers left their lives and many civilians too.

Neverless, the Berlin Blockade, and subsequent Airlift, went on to symbolize the uneasy peace of the Cold War.

Sichuan open- Tibet still closed

While Tibet still remains closed to tourists and foreign journalists, the Sichuan province of china is already open, everybody can visit it and report how good the Chinese government takes care of the people.

But the only one who is responsible for that is the „Dalai Lama clique“. That's what Qin Gang, the spokesman of the foreign ministery wanna make us believe. Like always.

Well, I believe, that the Chinese government wants to seal off Tibet, so that they can conduct a security crackdown without foreign witnesses.

But to open the Sichuan province is good propaganda, and, if enough tourists are visiting the area, also good for cash.

The only question is, for what this money will be used for...reconstruction, the Olympics, or for the Chinese peoples army to hold down Tibet...

The Dalai Lama at the Brandenburg Gate

The Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet, ended his visit to Germany yesterday in Berlin, but without meeting the governing major, Klaus Wowereit.">

It was like a big party at the Brandenburg Gate, more like if a pop-star arrives, but with people from all ages, nations and different social groups. Different Bands were playing, and, of course, also the tibetan singer Ani Choling.">

When he finally arrived on the stage, the applause from 25.000 people cheered him up. At the start of his speech he prayed for the victems of the earthquacke in China and announced his solidarity with them. Then he talked about more tolerance and respect between the religions, and that the last century was a century of wars and blood, many of them caused by disrespect and intolerance, and that this one should be one of diolog and humanity. And that Tibet don't wants seperation from China, only cultural autonomy. And this, really, is not much.">

But what happened with our government? Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul, the development minister, was the only government official who met with the Dalai Lama on Monday. And she did so against the wishes of the Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the leader of the Social Democrats, Kurt Beck. Both had said that no senior party leaders would meet with the Dalai Lama. Are they maybe afraid? Okay, our chancellor Angela Merkel, who met him in September in the chancellery, couldn't met him this time cause she was in Latin America. 

But the Chinese Embassy even didn't like that..

"We object to a member of the German government receiving the Dalai Lama, and to Germany allowing him to carry out this visit," Junhui Zhang, a Chinese diplomat. F... yourself Mr.Zhang!

Difference between China and Burma

What is the big difference between China and Burma(Myanmar)?

Well, while the Chinese government at least take care for there people, and is intelligent enough to accept foreign aide workers into the country, the Burmese one is stupid and only takes care about their power(and money, of course).

After the devastating earthquake in the Sichuan province, which caused 19.000 dead's until now, many of them kids, the Chinese government acted quickly and send 80.000 soldiers to the region to help the people. And also, they accepted immediately the aide workers from other countries. Even from the USA.

And now they even mobilized 30.000 additional soldiers, not just to help victims, but also to shore up weakened dams and other elements of the infrastructure whose failure could compound the disaster. If the dams would break, nobody even would like to think what could happen than.

And Burma? Their the military junta is sitting on their fat asses, and have sealed off the delta from the outside world, expelling foreign aid workers, and placing multiple checkpoints along the roads. The Red Cross reported, that as many as 2.5 million people were affected by the cyclone, and that the death toll could reach 120.000.

Oh, sorry, I forgot, now Burmese authorities say they would accept up to 160 foreign aide workers, but only from India, China, Thailand and Bangladesh.

Carneval of the Cultures

On Friday the 13th carneval of the cultures got started, and this night it will end(better lets say thuesday morning). More than one million visitors where estimatet. Now I know, that 1.3 million was there.

And it is great, I really can tell you. On friday afternoon Peter and I went to the Blücherplatz where the big street festival is, with Latainrock, Turkish music, reggae, salsa and all the other things which makes you dance, let your legs go crazy and your hips swing. Wizards, curiosity marketeers and culinary delights invide visitors to stay. And we really had fun there. Peter even meet an old friend there which he hasn't seen since about 10 years.

On Sunday the big Street Parade started at 12:30 p.m. with 4500 participants from 80 nations, colorfull like always, but this year with warm and sunny weather. Music from all parts of the world, Sambagroups, devilish looking creatures from Cameron, colourful dancers from Bolivia, and an Indonesian gamelan orchestra touts for the grace of the audience. And it didn't end at 9 p.m., no, the people where making more party's at the Blücherplatz and in the bars. With lots of beer, mochitos and caipirinha. Like last year. Like this last video.

Humanitarian Crises

Yesterday the United Nations had to suspended relief flights to Burma because the military regime is refusing to allow foreign aid workers into the country to help with the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis.

The suspension, which followed the impounding of UN World Food Programme aid shipments, came as the organisation expressed “exasperation” at the intransigence of the isolationist junta in the face of a vast humanitarian crisis.

The UN expressed astonishment at the junta’s resistance to foreign help, which it said was “unprecedented” in the history of humanitarian relief. All of the food aid and equipment that the UN already managed to get in to Myanmar has been confiscated by the Military Junta and the aid workers have been send home. And what is the Junta doing with the aid? They don't give it to the people who need it, they probably use it for them self or sell it! At least nobody has seen it. No wonder, they only have a few helicopters, and they where used for showing journalist's how the „generous“ General Than Shwe giving 10 DVD-Players and TV's as relief to hungry people which don't have energy, not even clean water to drink.

It's a disaster there, and more and more people are dieing. You can't even count the corpses in the water, you see rats gnawing at them, and the chances of upcoming epidemics are high. Malaria, Cholera, and, perhaps, even the plague.

If the Burmese government’s still refuses to give the necessary permissions to foreign aid workers(and really let 'em in), than the US and France should go in by FORCE! In my eyes it is the only chance for the Burmese people to survive.

Update: Bernard Kouchner, the French foreign minister, told, that the french government has decided to deliver the food aid directly to the people who need it, and that there will be no way that the Military junta get's it. And that they will do it by force if it is necessary.

Playboy magazine pornographic???

Does they have nothing better to do than this bullshit? Now they wanna ban Playboy and other magazines in the PX.

U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, a Marine veteran, told Newsweek recently that the magazines(Playboy, Hustler, Penthouse etc.) sold in military exchanges are partly responsible for a rise in sexual assaults in the military and other problems. Broun says on his Web site :

"Allowing the sale of pornography on military bases has harmed military men and women by: escalating the number of violent, sexual crimes; feeding a base addiction; eroding the family as the primary building block of society; and denigrating the moral standing of our troops both here and abroad"

Well, I guess he is a fucking liar who likes to twist the truth. And, by the way, calling Playboy, Penthouse or Hustler pornographic is the greatest bullshit I've ever heard. Even my Mom, and she is 78 years old, couldn't believe that when I told her. She was shacking her head and asked me, if that idiot has ever seen real pornographic stuff.

If their soldiers are old enough to fight and die for freedom, they are old enough to view porn(and I mean real porn, and not only so called porn), smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol if they choose so.

But this bigotry and sanctimony only could come from that religious politicians in the USA. They show how religious they are, but spending 3000$ or more for a call girl. I hope he got caught once too. Than we will have something to laugh at.

What did Robin Wiliams once said:

"Politicians are like dirty diapers... they need to be changed often and for the same reason"
